Is your remote education plan up to date?
The COVID pandemic hit the UK in the Spring of 2020—that’s approximately 4 years ago now, which seems almost crazy. When it hit, schools had to quickly pull together a remote education plan and this was published on their websites.
For many schools, the same plan is still published on their website and has not been updated.
Therefore, schools should consider updating their currently published plans and remove any references that are COVID-related, e.g., “bubbles”. The plan should be more generic and be appropriate for circumstances when remote education is required—not just when COVID is present. For example, school closures or restrictions on attendance, or individual cases where a pupil is unable to attend school but can learn.
The plan should be dated and contain a review date to ensure that the content remains relevant, especially with regards to curriculum content.
The Department for Education (DfE) updated its own guidance on remote education in January 2023 and this can be found here. It is worth schools reviewing this guidance alongside their own plans to ensure that they are in-line with the DfE’s expectations.
